Overkilled 03/01/2009

The House of the Dead: Overkill wastes no time establishing its credentials for an M rating. It takes about two seconds, actually. It's cruder than it has to be and more violent than just about anything else on the Nintendo Wii. And there happens to be a pretty good game underneath all that.

The Wiimote functions as a light-gun, and works very well when it's plugged into the Wii Zapper (that's a $25 peripheral, but you don't need it to play). You don't have much control over where your character moves, but you're plenty busy with the waves of zombies in your face, so you simply blast your way through each of seven levels. These are set up as mini-movies and have extended cut scenes to help with the outrageous plot. And that's the best way to describe this game: outrageous.
